The best time to find a job on Linkedin is when you are not looking for a job.

The easy way to find a job on Linkedin is by getting better exposure to wider network by interacting daily/frequently.

To give you an example, I have two colleagues who got their jobs via Linkedin without even applying for a job. How did they do it? When I asked the same question to their one word answer is:

Spend 20 minutes a day to get the double exposure of your profile and reach 3rd degree connections and beyond.

The strategy is simple: Use the Linkedin Home Feeds wisely to interact with. Comment, like, share the relevant content over the Linkedin. BY doing this, your profile reaches the 2nd, 3rd degree connections of your network and beyond. This reaches the maximum people in shortest time.

Instead of spending daily on mindless social media platforms, my recommendation is to spend atleast 20 minutes on Linkedin doing this. You will definitely see the results sooner than you expected.

Yes, this above is true, finding a job on Linkedin is also a long term game, one should play wisely else we do not see results.

I have been using Linkedin since 2008 and I never looked back in finding a job using Linkedin. Throughout my consulting career, I always find the job leads via my 1st degree network or 2nd degree network connections in Linkedin.

Over a period, Linkedin keeps changing the algorithm behinds the scenes to make it work for all types of content that people post over Linkedin. So understanding the Linkedin algorithm and play the game accordingly to yield the results. At the end, Linkedin is all about Human 2 Human connections. So you don’t find the jobs instead you build meaningful connections with fellow humans over Linkedin that eventually leads to find the new jobs new business opportunities or anything that you are looking to get benefit from Linkedin.

Let me put some key strategies I follow personally, while I am finding the job in LinkedIn:

Make sure your LinkedIn Headline has the target job title

Make sure your headshot is professional. That should not be a selfie, or with family or a couple or with friends. You are projecting your seriousness by following certain basic guidelines on LinkedIn

Put the Linkedin Banner to maximum use to attract the target leads or recruiters

Make sure your LinkedIn profile is completely “COMPLETED” to meet all star status.

Make sure you have github profile, portfolio are also linked with Linkedin, so recruiters can understand your work, skills before even they pick up the phone to talk you.

Make sure to receive and give the recommendations from your previous employers or colleagues or people who knew about you skills deeply and appreciate.

With this, you are good to start your networking. Linkedin is all about finding the right connects or network to leverage to your business or careers needs.

If you want to get a job using Linkedin:

First find the top 20 target companies where you want to work

Do the research about those 20 companies until you feel you have the enough information about each company

Now Look for as many employees as possible, with similar skills of yours and working at the companies, and start sending them connection requests. There might be people who don’t accept or respond but that’s okay. Keep sending the requests

Once you are connected to the employees, look at their Linkedin profiles, understand their skills, technologies, tools they use, their posts, likes and comments etc. Then initiate the conversation around those topics or offer your skills/posts/blogs/content you created in the expertise area.

Once people starts replying, you can slowly leverage those connections to your advantage, explaining that you are looking for referral for the open position at their employer.

This way, you build a long lasting relationships over a period which brings you more and more opportunities.

Also, Make sure you use SEO optimized keywords or buzz words in your posts, profile summary, or headline, so when someone searches for those keywords, your profile will standout to them.

Linkedin algorithm changes your profile appearance and visibility based on how frequently you are active on Linkedin, the content you post, the people you interact with. based on your interactions, Linkedin recommends the posts, of feeds on your home page. So make sure to follow or connect with relevant people who can get you a job or offer you something in your expertise areas.
